Supercharging an electric vehicle’s battery too often can cause it to degrade more quickly than using a lower-level charger. So much so that Tesla’s cars are programmed to slow down when they’re being supercharged.
A DC fast charger can also be helpful, as long as the battery range is topped off at just 80 percent, as opposed to the full 100 percent. Your battery’s SOC must be below 80% for a fast charger to work. They slow down for the remaining 20% to avoid overcharging. Level 3 fees would be charged at that point, but you would only receive Level 2. After completing the first 80 percent, it may take as long to add the final 20 percent.
